FAQs (general)

Does Playworks take insurance?

Playworks Therapy is in-network with Tricare (Prime and Select) but not any other commercial insurances. For active duty military, we are not contracted with Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan as they are a separate entity from Tricare. Our clinic operates on a “fee for service” model which means the client pays for the services as they are rendered. Through our patient portal, you can access a super bill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out of network benefits. The rate of reimbursement varies by company and policy, and you will need to determine that directly with your insurance company. You may be responsible for meeting your out of network deductible before the insurance will reimburse you and you will most likely be reimbursed a percentage of the cost.

At Playworks, we are dedicated to every child getting the support that they need to live a happy and healthy life so if the fee for service model is not reasonable for your family, we will be happy to try to help you find a therapy clinic that takes insurance.

What is your illness policy?

As pediatric providers,, we understand that children are sick a lot.  We ask that you cancel your child’s appointment if he has a fever, stomach bug or is not feeling well enough to participate in the therapy session.  Your child needs to be symptom free for 24 hours without the use of over the counter medication such as Tylenol. We do not charge for missed sessions due to illness.

The clinic follows the CDC recommendations for COVID. If your child has tested positive for COVID, they need to isolate for a minimum of 5 days.  Depending on the type of therapy your child is receiving, we may be able to provide virtual sessions while you are isolating. If your child has improving symptoms, and is fever free after 5 days, they may return to the clinic wearing a mask.  We ask that other family members  that are in the clinic wear masks as well.  The CDC recommends wearing a mask for 10 days after testing positive.

What is Playworks' cancellation policy?

We expect that you cancel your appointment a minimum of 24 hours in advance or you will be charged the cost of the visit.  We do not charge for cancellations due to illness or emergency.

What does a treatment session look like?

At Playworks, we meet the child where they are.  We strive to provide child-led/play-based, fun therapy sessions so that your child is engaged as we are working on your goals for your child. For an hour long session, it will be 50 minutes of direct intervention time and 10 minutes of wrap up and family education/instruction.  For a 45 or 30 minute session it will be 40/25 minutes of intervention, respectively, and 5 minutes of wrap up. We welcome parents to be present during the session as we feel it helps the parent to observe how hard their child is working and gives them ideas for activities at home.  However, this does not work for some families and children and we understand that.

We have 3 gyms with sensory-motor equipment and multiple smaller treatment rooms for quieter treatment sessions. We are multidisciplinary so we have the availability for co-treatments between disciplines as well as asking a colleague to consult regarding their discipline for a child.  If your child will be receiving therapy services from more than one discipline, we strive to provide a comprehensive treatment plan for your child and family that brings together all disciplines. We are one large team which includes your child and your family as team members.

What is Playworks' inclement weather policy?

The clinic follows Arlington County Public Schools so if APS is closed, then the clinic is closed.  If APS has a two hour delay then the clinic will open at 9:30.  Our therapists will make every attempt to reschedule your child’s appointment.

FAQs (Fusion)

What is Fusion?
Fusion is our online portal that we use to create and track client goals, detail session notes, write homework, and more! Parents use it to read further about how their child did in a session and what they worked on, follow homework updates, monitor their child’s progress, and access billing
invoices.

How do I log into Fusion?
When you first join Playworks Therapy, we add you to the system and Fusion automatically sends you an email with instructions to create your account. The subject of the email will be titled Playworks Portal. Sometimes, this email goes to spam. If you cannot find it or never received it, reach out to your clinician. You can use this link once you have set up your account:  https://fusionwebclinic.com

What if I need to reset my password?
Resetting your password requires specific Playworks employees to enter Fusion and reset your account. This will subsequently send you another email to set up your account. You can email Liz
(liz@playworksspeech.com) if you need a password reset link.

Where are my billing invoices?
Billing invoices can be found on your Fusion dashboard when you log in.

Where is homework?
Homework can be provided in a variety of ways! Sometimes, your clinician may print homework out for your child to practice at home. Other times, they may email homework. And lastly, homework is often detailed in the “Take-Home Activities” section of your child’s note from their last session.

Thank you for taking the time to read this FAW about our Fusion system. It is an integral part of therapy and helps connect clinicians and families. Reach out to your clinician if you have any further questions.
